This summer my love for reading has been rejuvenated and it’s all thanks to Colleen Hoover. I was on Youtube and I was repeatedly recommended book review videos. After watching a few of these videos, they all had one thing in common: every video gave an outstanding review for Colleen Hoover’s book It Ends with Us. Given the high marks, I had to read the book myself and I have to say that I was not disappointed. It has everything that you could want in a book. The characters are amazing, the plot is spectacular, and there is a plot twist at the end that you wouldn’t expect. If someone were to ask me what book they should read I would recommend this book.
*Trigger Warning: involves domestic abuse*
This book was so great that I bought more of her books and they were just as good. Her other books November 9th, Ugly Love, Verity, and Reminders of Him are all great reads as well. Hoover has a great gift of writing and she writes books that you don’t want to put down. Reading a book of hers is like watching an amazing show and even though you should only watch one more episode, you end up watching the whole season in one night. If you want to read a book with a very unexpected plot twist, I would highly recommend November 9th or Verity. November 9th is about two people who only meet on one day a year…you guessed it, it’s November 9th and they slowly develop a relationship through the years.
However, they only talk to each other on that day. The other 364 days they live on opposite sides of the country and they don’t call, text, email, or dm; communication is completely blocked. Near the end we learn something very unexpected, but I’m not going to ruin that for you; you’ll just have to read the book yourself to find out.
Verity is one of Hoover’s only horror type books and the ending left me speechless. The book is about an author named Lowen who has been hired to finish the last couple of books of an already very successful book series because the original author (Verity) is injured and can’t finish them. She moves into the house of Verity, with her husband Jeremy, and their son Todd to go through all of Verity’s notes about what she imagined for the last books. While searching she finds an autobiography written by Verity that has never been read by anyone. The manuscript reveals many dark details about Verity’s thoughts and the bad things she has done to her family. The ending of this book is great because it is all left up to interpretation, and we as the audience don’t know the truth..
If you decide to read a Colleen Hoover book, you will not be disappointed and will probably end up reading the entire book in one night because they are impossible to put down.
